Realizing four decades ago that baking bread gave her great pleasure, Regina re-kindled those memories and began re-enacting as a volunteer with a baker, Yannig Tanguy, in upstate New York. Helping to prepare and participating at period battle re-enactments and encampments of the Revolutionary War and the French & Indian Wars began this adventure.
Living in Delaware, and with history and travel already being part of her established business as an antique dealer, it only seemed natural to learn more, first hand, about living history events and re-enacting at sites. After 3 years of participation, travel and research, Regina decided to remain in the history field but in a different venue by portraying bakers in the Middle Colonies. With these thoughts, her husband Michael, created a 1,600+ pound transportable, campaign style wood-fired oven. The successful oven challenge allows Blue Hen Bakers, Regina and Michael Albert of Wilmington, Delaware, to offer period-style fare, and share traditional baking methods of the old-world, with today’s technology and regulations, at historic sites for encampments, events, celebrations, and programs.
"We enjoy being an asset to an event, offering our variety of 18th century style fare in our market setting. Our approach is educational and sometimes entertaining for the public and re-enactors. We take pride in our persona, baking and selling our fresh period-style fare adding an additional level of education. Baking on-site allows everyone the true opportunity to imagine and experience period style baking."
